Week 3 Assignment 1- Theory in Practice.


After reading all three articles, they each discussed the importance of new literacies in today’s era. “New literacies” is known as the new form of literacy used through technology. As a future teacher using new literacy is important to know because this is what out students only know (technology). As well it is important to know how to integrate technology in the classroom efficiently.  In the first article is speaks about technology in the aspect of digital and media. What I like about this article it spoke about how new literacies can be a challenge in the classroom and getting to familiarize your self can take time. There are three important pointers to know before beginning new literacies in classroom that was new to me. This article made me realize a lot and view some expectations differently. The second article speaks about prepping students for the future and teaching them to become proficient in new literacies. The approach of doing this is by administrators, teachers, parents and the school learning together, sticking together and knowing their roles. The third article discusses how new literacies have changed over time and will continue to change. With the change and advancement that we have in technology new literacies will continue to be influenced for the better over time. This means teachers always have to stay up to date on the current technology to model it in their classrooms to students. Students will also keep teachers updated and learning on a daily basis.

    I would think staying up to date with current technology is probably one of the biggest issues for teachers. As we all know technology is constantly changing. Trying to keep up with everything, as well as running a class and creating lesson plans etc., I'm sure can all be very time consuming.

Week 3- Assignment 2

•   Which ideas from the video reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction? Based on the video the ELA teacher is using a productivity tool in her classroom. She is using the smart bored, ipad, and software apps, to engage her students. •   How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum? Week 6 -2-1

After reading both articles, they both come to the same important point of technology in the classroom. One article focused on understanding of ICT’s by teachers and the other was social media in the classroom. In order for both to occur in the classroom we have to make the students feel comfortable when using technology so that way the transition is smooth and students can adapt to become familiar. In most cases if teachers are not familiar with technology they tend to shy away from it and teach using textbooks or lecture. In the country we live in this isn’t fair or possible anymore because we are in an advance world of technology.
