Week 5 Assignment 1


I believe gaming in the classroom is great for students, they are able to have fun, learn and excel in there own pace. It is also great for teachers to conduct assessments on. This is the second school where they have used Raz kids and reading A-Z for ELA. Raz kids is a reading program that lets teachers know how their students are reading, what level are they own and if they exceled or went down in their reading level. Teachers believe this is great for the beginning of the school year especially because they are able to have students read independently and access the results once they logged out. Many teachers at the moment are struggling putting reading groups together and actually going through the assessment. Once this assessment is done it would be easier to manage. I find this amazing because it is all done through gaming. Reading A-Z is a part of Raz kids that also includes programs: vocabulary A-Z and writing A-Z. All these programs are games where teachers can access their students and students can have fun and learn at the same time.

Week 3- Assignment 2

•   Which ideas from the video reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction? Based on the video the ELA teacher is using a productivity tool in her classroom. She is using the smart bored, ipad, and software apps, to engage her students. •   How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum? I can help by introducing ICT tools ( components of new literacies) and having students use cognitive skills / tools in the classroom. •   What professional development and/or resources will they need in order to make these changes? Week 6 -2-1

After reading both articles, they both come to the same important point of technology in the classroom. One article focused on understanding of ICT’s by teachers and the other was social media in the classroom. In order for both to occur in the classroom we have to make the students feel comfortable when using technology so that way the transition is smooth and students can adapt to become familiar. In most cases if teachers are not familiar with technology they tend to shy away from it and teach using textbooks or lecture. In the country we live in this isn’t fair or possible anymore because we are in an advance world of technology.
