Week 9- Assignment 1
According to the article, students who are currently in
college have not been prepared in reading and comprehension when reading and
learning because of the on demand use of technology. As I see on a daily basis
with my students, they lack focus and engagement if it doesn’t involve
technology or a on demand topic. Being
that this is the era of technology the article suggest that schools should use
new literacies to connect with students.
Using new literacies is digital and help students focus and engage more
with reading and comprehension in a topic.
In addition the articles majority speaks about the use of
blogging with college students. College professors began introducing blogging
to students so they can do assignments on line, communicate with one another
virtually, sharing work and commenting on each other’s work. Having student’s
blog and use common technology in the classroom should make them become more
engaged. After some further research the study ended up showing students who
blog vs. students who do not blog had no significant difference. However when
results were gathered by professors they stated that students do better
learning when blogging and have a positive effective in the classroom. Students
were interactive and completing assignments care second nature to them.
When it comes to my
experience I feel that using technology and new literacies in the classroom
does make a difference. For the most part I’m not bored, I’m engaged and it
makes the classroom effective and time go by fast. Introducing new literacies
also expand the use of technology and opens up a bigger platform for technology
to be used for other subjects.
