I interviewed an elementary school teacher Ms. Davney who currently teaches in the Bronx. In the socioeconomic neighborhood she is, she faces many challenges on teaching and working with parents and students on a daily basis. She expressed that a lesson doesn’t always go as planned and has to constantly be instructed on a daily basis. How do you introduce literature and keep students engaged with informative texts? “ In my class students and most of the school students struggle with reading so my constant goal and focus is finding new ways to introduce literature. Week 3- Assignment 2

•   Which ideas from the video reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction? Based on the video the ELA teacher is using a productivity tool in her classroom. She is using the smart bored, ipad, and software apps, to engage her students. •   How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum? I can help by introducing ICT tools ( components of new literacies) and having students use cognitive skills / tools in the classroom. •   What professional development and/or resources will they need in order to make these changes? While using these new components teachers have to use the ICT tools: evaluate, communicate, identify and synthesize the information. Week 6 -2-1

After reading both articles, they both come to the same important point of technology in the classroom. One article focused on understanding of ICT’s by teachers and the other was social media in the classroom. In order for both to occur in the classroom we have to make the students feel comfortable when using technology so that way the transition is smooth and students can adapt to become familiar. In most cases if teachers are not familiar with technology they tend to shy away from it and teach using textbooks or lecture. In the country we live in this isn’t fair or possible anymore because we are in an advance world of technology.
