UDL Book Builder

My inspiration on creating this UDL book was based on the amount time I spent in my special education inclusion class. It is combined 2nd and 3rd graders who are diagnosed with autism and other specialities. They are all unique and wonderful in their own way. However I have never worked in a special education class so the amount of resources I have learned was amazing and news to me. Most of the time these students cannot control their body and have to jump, run in place or go for a walk. Some cannot even sit on the carpet for long and if they do have to sit there are special rules for each one. What stood out to me the most was the students wearing these heavy vest, some even wear heavy book bags and walk around with them. One of my students vets weighed 50 lbs they barley even weight that. The vest are heavy but it's amazing how it does not bother my students they immediately calm down. One time during a writing / reading lesson I was doing on my students could not focus and was being disruptive. Once I had a calm talk with him and put on his vest he was a new person. I think this field is amazing and the amount of tools they are out there to use is even better.

I personally think that UDL book builder is amazing and my students even in this class will enjoy doing it. First they do not enjoy writing but enjoy the computer so this will keep them engaged and focus. Next month we start learning about animals and they have to create a book. I cannot wait to use this program with them.

Week 3- Assignment 2

•   Which ideas from the video reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction? Based on the video the ELA teacher is using a productivity tool in her classroom. She is using the smart bored, ipad, and software apps, to engage her students. •   How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum? I can help by introducing ICT tools ( components of new literacies) and having students use cognitive skills / tools in the classroom. •   What professional development and/or resources will they need in order to make these changes? Week 6 -2-1

After reading both articles, they both come to the same important point of technology in the classroom. One article focused on understanding of ICT’s by teachers and the other was social media in the classroom. In order for both to occur in the classroom we have to make the students feel comfortable when using technology so that way the transition is smooth and students can adapt to become familiar. In most cases if teachers are not familiar with technology they tend to shy away from it and teach using textbooks or lecture. In the country we live in this isn’t fair or possible anymore because we are in an advance world of technology.
